LOCATION:
Lor In Business Resort & Spa is a stylish 5-star property located along Jalan Adisucipto in Solo (or the city's official name is Surakarta but rarely being used). The resort, formerly operated by Sheraton Group of Hotels, is ideally located some 10 minutes to downtown Solo, 10 minutes to Bandar Udara Adisucipto (Solo City airport) or close to 2-hour drive from Yogyakarta.

The best way to get here is by local cabs. From downtown Yogyakarta, the cab fee was about Rp200.000 ($25). The cab fee from downtown Solo City is about Rp10.000 while from Bandar Udara Adisucipto, expect to fork out Rp20.000.

DESCRIPTION:
The swimming pool at this Lor In Resort is rather spacious. It is not exactly free-form in concept but there are a number of small islets where tropical trees are grown. Overall, the landscaping around the swimming pool is generous and somewhat lush.

The best portion is probably near the Jolotundo pool bar where you can find a secluded roofed section to hang around while admiring the greenery. Actually it was supposed to have a jacuzzi here but it was not operational when I was there.

The decorated concrete beams and archways form a pleasant obstacle for pool-worshippers. Certainly it diverges away from the common boxy or rectangular pool designs we normally seen at other resorts around the world. In fact, you can swim into the shallow waters of the kid's pool where children could bathe and play without the parents worrying about the deeper water in the adult's pool.

Uniquely, when you check-in at this resort, you will have the option to either enjoy your welcome drink at the reception itself, or at the pool. Obviously I chose the latter. The rich concoction of fruit punch with a hint of orange was provided by the Jolotundo pool bar. With the luxurious pool setting and perfect hot weather, the welcome drink was indeed heaven-sent.

There are a number of relaxing chairs by the pool. I took my spot on one before splurging into the water. Near the pool bar is a health club, offering gym equipment, sports massage rooms, relaxing lounge, two separate jacuzzis and adequate changing and shower rooms.

I also re-visited the pool just as the sun went down. The pool was brightly lit against the dark cobalt-blue sky.

MY VERDICT:
Architecturally wonderful. Great food, friendly service. For Rp850.000 ($90), I get what I paid for.
