LOCATION: Bangsal Srimanganti is located inside the compound of the main palace of Keraton Yogyakarta. It is opposite Bangsal Trajumas where the royal gamelan instruments are kept.
DESCRIPTION: This large open-air bangsal (hall) holds a number of significant importance to the Keraton complex. It is the main hall located in the first courtyard near the main entrance. The roof design is unique - alternating wood panels rise up to a central feature that sits prominently like the peak of a pyramid. Surrounding the bangsal are chairs used for audience attending the many dance performances held on certain time and certain days. During performances, the audience can also opt to sit on the lower floor while enjoying the show. South of the bangsal is where all the gamelan instruments used for performances are kept. These are the cultural performances that you can enjoy at Bangsal Srimanganti, depending on the time and the day you visit the Keraton:
| PERFORMANCE | DAY | TIME | UYON UYON Some of these performances are given by groups from outside the kraton. | SUN, MON, TUE, THU | 1100 - 1200 HRS (SUN), 1000 - 1200 HRS (MON, TUE, THU) | SEKAR
| FRI | 1000 - 1130 HRS | WAYANG KULIT The shadow puppet show | SAT | 0900 - 1300 HRS | | WAYANG GOLEK | WED | 0900 - 1200 HRS |
MY VERDICT: A must visit especially during cultural performances. Do check the schedule in advance so that you can plan your tour to the Keraton complex. |
